All our boys, girls, young men, young women and Mamas share a block of four latrines, which is far from ideal, but there are many calls on our funding, so food, clothing and schooling tends to be our priorities. Our boys aged from about 12 supervised by Safari have now dug a new pit. I held a little competition to guess how deep the pit was - 5.04m. The pit is for 2 toilets and will be used by 9+ year old boys. The boys now have to make bricks and we have to get together some money to buy cement and steel strengthening rods for the floor; timber for the roof trusses and iron sheets for the roof and doors.
Brick Making for latrine
Safari and the boys making mud bricks, which are first dried in the sun and then stacked to form a kiln ready for timber to be put inside and then fired overnight.

I'm so proud of Safari teaching and encouraging the boys in these traditional village skill; and the boys for being so very responsive
